Lenten Reflection The Prodigal Son

Lenten Reflection The Prodigal Son by Rev. Jay St…

Lenten Reflection The Prodigal Son by Rev. Jay Stuart Glover

What  I LOVE  about this story is that when he hit rock bottom, in the midst of a famine, it was there,  in the valley of despair that the Holy Spirit prompted him to reflect back on the experience of life with his Father. As he reflected on his actual experience at his Fathers house, he began to come back to his senses. He remembered the provision, the goodness, and the security of being with His Father.

So I love the part that says He Got Up and returned to his father.

When his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. There was a great celebration.

Today, this story can serve to remind us that there will be times that we,  as people of faith, sense ourselves being pulled away from God. We may even get to the point where  our faith is  like the dew on the morning grass that evaporates under the heat of the sun. Our hope becomes overshadowed by despair. Our freedom to love God, and our capacity to love others seems to diminish.

If we find ourselves in that space , the good news is that in our time of need, just like the prodigal son, we can look back and reflect on our actual experiences with our Heavenly Father. Those experiences that gave us great comfort, and assurance. During  those reflections we  can encounter the God given freedom that allows  our hearts and minds to return to our Father who created us and awaits our homecoming.

The parable of the prodigal son, articulates explores themes of repentance, forgiveness, and the unconditional love of God.

God bless you Amen

May God prosper you according to His divine will and purpose.
